Harvest Celebration: Tasting of Olio Nuovos
A handful of olive oils from the autumn harvest are released
immediately after being milled, and are available for just a few weeks.
Join our class to sample several of these fresh and bold new olive oils.
This is the best time of the year – when new harvest oils, resplendent with vibrant flavor, appear in the marketplace. Like Beaujolais Nouveau wine, Olio Nuovos have limited availability and are best enjoyed when fresh.
Join olive oil expert Nancy Ash for a guided tasting of a selection of her favorite olio nuovos from Italy and California. Learn about sensory assessment methodology while appreciating the range of flavors presented in these oils. We will conclude our tasting experience with a food pairing to demonstrate the versatility of these oils (small bites/not dinner).
ADDED BONUS: each attendee will receive a 20% discount coupon* from Market Hall Foods (Oakland/Berkeley/online markethallfoods.com) where many of the oils are available for purchase.
(*20% off any extra virgin or flavored olive oil in-store or online through Dec 31st)
Our instructor Nancy Ash has been an olive oil taster for 20 years and is an internationally-trained Taste Panel Leader. She serves as the Deputy Panel Leader for the California Olive Oil Council Taste Panel, where she is responsible for panel education; she also serves on the taste panel for Modern Olives and performs sensory assessment for AG Biolab. Also, Nancy loves to cook meals for friends and family using copious amounts of extra virgin olive oil.
